Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

(LCELC) is very passionate about the lives of children. Each child has a unique status and personality.

We like to work closely with parents and carers to enable children to become the best they can be at school and home. Children are the springboard for creating confident learners and participating as great citizens. We encourage them to show emotion, be physical, and have good social development.

We help develop their personalities, talents, and intellectual abilities. We love our children to learn through doing. We offer a well-sourced, happy, secure, creative learning environment indoors and outdoors. At (LCELC) we appreciate that every child is different and learns at their own pace.

Repetition of their experiences is fundamental to their progress in developing their understanding of self-expression, vocabulary, and ability to communicate through the arts.

The Early Years Foundation Stage is the government’s standard for the learning, development and care of children from birth to five years old.

Personal, social, and emotional development

Children’s personal, social and emotional development (PSED) is vital for children and is essential to their cognitive development. Forming their personal development are the necessary attachments that shape their social world. Children learn how to understand their feelings and those of others by interacting with others. Children need support to manage emotions, develop a positive sense of self, set themselves simple goals, have confidence in their abilities, be persistent, wait for what they want, and direct attention.

Communication and language

Children need to have back-and-forth interactions from an early age, forming the foundations for language and cognitive development. Teachers and parents will effectively build children’s language by commenting on what children are interested in or doing and echoing back what they say with new vocabulary added.

Physical development

Physical activity is vital in children’s overall development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy, and active lives. Gross and fine motor experiences develop little by little throughout early childhood, starting with sensory investigation and developing a child’s strength, coordination, and positional awareness. Gross motor skills provide the foundation for developing healthy bodies and social and emotional well-being. Fine motor control and precision help with hand-eye coordination in early literacy. Repeated and varied opportunities to explore and play with small world activities, puzzles, arts and crafts, and the practice of using small tools allow children to develop a strong skill set, control, and confidence

literacy

It is essential to read frequently to children. Children love the adventure, find it engaging, and become actively interested in stories. In turn, this provides them with extensive opportunities to use and embed new words in various contexts. Conversation, story-telling, and role-play will allow children to thrive.

Mathematics

Children should be able to count confidently and develop a deep understanding of numbers. Find the relationships between them and the patterns within those numbers. By providing frequent and varied opportunities to build and apply this understanding. Such as using manipulatives, including small pebbles, singing number songs, and organizing counting games. Children develop positive attitudes and interests in mathematics. They should look for patterns and relationships, spot connections, and not be afraid to ‘have a go,’ talk to adults about what they notice, and not be afraid to make mistakes.

Understanding the world

Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and community. Personal experience is vital to their knowledge and gives a sense of the world around them. Meeting essential community members such as nurses, firefighters, and police officers will be crucial. In addition, this will enrich and widen children’s vocabulary and will support later reading comprehension.

Expressive arts and design

The development of children’s artistic and cultural awareness supports their imagination and creativity. Children must have regular opportunities to engage with the arts, enabling them to explore and play with various media and materials.
